Why Play Tennis?

Well, It's Good For You!

According to the government's Chief Medical officer, regular physical activity of moderate intensity, such as brisk walking, can bring about major health benefits and help to reduce coronary heart disease and obesity, hypertension, depression and anxiety and help all of us to lead healthier and happier lives.

The National Osteoporosis Society reports that your skeleton grows stronger if you do regular weight-bearing exercise, that is any kind of physical activity where you are supporting the weight of your own body, for example jogging, aerobics, tennis, dancing and brisk walking. And osteoporosis or brittle bone disease is increasingly affecting men as well as women.

So there you have it. If jogging and aerobics don't do it for you and you're all danced out, take a brisk walk down to Leicestershire and sign up to play tennis. Oh, and the mental demands of tennis - tactics, strategy and remembering that your opponent is left-handed - mean that you can chuck out that Nintendo brain training thingy too.
