Club Tennis | League Tennis | Why Play Tennis?

Leicestershire Tennis Club is a competitive club fielding teams in various leagues and competitions, and running its own. At the same time the club has a strong focus on recreational tennis, recognising that not everyone wants to make the commitment of time and effort needed for competitive tennis. Not least of course team players who have decided the time has come to wind down without hanging up their racquets entirely, and that the future for any sport that aspires to be more than something watched on television, lies in the magic word participation.

In pursuit of this goal of wider participation, the club organises a programme aimed directly at beginners or those who may not have played since schooldays, with the aim of bringing them within a short time to a standard where they can play a satisfactory game, and build from there to whatever heights their natural ability or enthusiasm can take them. See the Why Play Tennis? page for details of this and how you can get your course fees rebated when you join.

Continuing this theme we would emphasise that most tennis played at the club is informal, with players organising their own pairs or fours, either to practice for competitions or just to play socially, combining exercise with a love of the game.

The size of the club, with more than 300 adult members, means that players can always find others at a similar level to play, and ambitious players can expect to find themselves playing in games of a steadily improving standard. For those who truly want to improve the club's coaching staff offer a range of courses and individual coaching to help.
